Having completed a three year degree course at Lincoln University in Traditional Chinese Acupuncture, to which I have also studied western medical diseases, disorders, diagnosis, pathophysiology and treatment.
I am a member of the British Acupuncture Council (BAcC) where my Qualification is one of the few accredited by the Board of the British Acupuncture Council. The BAcC maintains standards of education, ethics, discipline and practice to ensure the health and safety of the public at all times. Through this I am covered by Medical Malpractice and Public/Products Liability Insurance. As a member of the BAcC, I observe a Code of Safe Practice, which lays down stringent standards of hygiene and requires the use of sterile, disposable needles.
Infertility has always been an area of particular interest to me, through my own experience of being a Poly Cystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS) sufferer and having the worries of infertility over me for many years. I decided to learn acupuncture for this reason, to gain as much insight and knowledge in the area as I possibly could, to be able to help myself and others in a similar position. I also wrote my dissertation on this subject to give me the opportunity to research the area of PCOS and infertility in detail.

How does Acupuncture work?
Chinese medicine is unique because, physical, emotional and mental health are seen as interdependent, and reflect what many people perceive as the connection between the different aspects in their lives.
So how does Acupuncture work ?,
Based on traditional belief, acupuncturists use a combination of subtle diagnostic techniques that have been developed and refined for centuries. With the focus being on you, the individual and not your illness, all of your symptoms are seen in relation to each other. Every patient is unique; two people with the same western diagnosis will most likely receive different treatments.
With traditional acupuncture, the underlying principle is that illness and pain occur when the body's “qi”, or vital energy, cannot flow freely and can become deficient or stagnant. There can be many reasons for this; emotional and physical stress, poor nutrition, infection or injury are among the most common. The now fast paced, over worked, poor posture and poor diet related western lifestyle has contributed to a lot of the health conditions seen today.
A growing body of evidence-based clinical research is discovering how the body responds to acupuncture and its benefits for a wide range of common health conditions. It can be used as a preventative treatment, when you’re generally run down, or when you feel unwell, but not necessarily presenting with such symptoms, you just know you don’t feel right. A lot of people have acupuncture to relieve specific aches and pains, such as osteoarthritis anywhere in the body, TMJ, headaches and low back pain, or for common health problems like an overactive bladder. Other people choose acupuncture when they can feel their bodily functions are out of balance, but they have no obvious diagnosis. And many have regular treatments because they find it so beneficial and relaxing. Today, acupuncture is receiving wide acceptance as a respected, valid, and effective form of health care because of one fact- it works!
Acupuncture for Fertility
Acupuncture with Donna offers, Acupuncture for Fertility in Ashby-De-La-Zouch.
Acupuncture has a long and successful history in reproductive medicine and is an excellent holistic therapy to help people on their journey to parenthood, whether they are beginning to prepare, need help during pregnancy or would appreciate support with western fertility treatments such as IVF.
The fertility journey may not be straightforward for many people, acupuncture can help to boost male and female fertility, help to prepare the body for conception and pregnancy and to treat any underlying conditions. Such as Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome, Endometriosis and irregular cycles along with readdressing the hormonal imbalances that come with such conditions and increase vital blood flow to the reproductive areas to improve the conditions conditioning.
Acupuncture can also have success with unexplained infertility, however gaining an insight into the treatment and western medical intervention already undertaken will be needed, to build a picture around such a condition. It can help with male infertility too, such as improving sperm production, quality and motility.
Acupuncture helps create a five star hotel for a baby to grow in by working alongside fertility treatments, such as IUI, IVF and ICSI, as well as supporting the couple emotionally along the way. Many studies have proved that having acupuncture during assisted fertility protocols does increase the chances of success.
Acupuncture can be especially helpful during pregnancy, it can be used to stimulate the flow of blood to the uterus and to help lift energy levels. It’s great for relieving stress too, which isn’t good for mother or baby and for relieving some of the more common ailments of pregnancy like nausea, fatigue or backache.
It is often used in the last few weeks of pregnancy as well, helping to prepare the mother for birth. It can be used to help induce labour, to turn breech babies and to help with pain relief during the birth.

Diagnosis & Treatment
During you first consultation, I will establish your particular imbalances or syndromes to gain information to be able to put you a treatment plan together. I will ask about your symptoms and how your body functions, such as sleep patterns, your medical history, appetite/digestion and temperature perception amongst others. I will take a look at your pulse and tongue as this gives us a good indication of what may be going on inside the body’s organs and how they’re functioning. Your syndrome may then be determined and a treatment plan can be discussed with you, treatment will usually be weekly initially, but as the condition improves this may be less frequent and eventually will just need to maintained either monthly or when you feel it is necessary. Your response and success with treatment will vary with each individual, there are no restrictions as to who can have acupuncture and it can combine well with both western drug therapies as well as other conventional medical treatments.
is a healthcare system, originating from China based on ancient principles which go back almost two thousand years. It uses a positive model of good health and wellbeing, taking into consideration that pain and illness are signs that the body is out of balance. The overall aim of acupuncture treatment, then, is to restore balance within the body and lifestyle.
Traditional Acupuncture is a popular alternative healthcare system built on ancient principles, a holistic therapy which means that it treats the person as a whole, rather than treating symptoms alone.
Effective treatment considers not only the physical state of a patient but also their emotional and mental states. The main principle is, that well-being depends on the quality and amount of energy or Qi (pronounced chee) that runs through the body via energy channels known as meridians or channels. This Qi represents our basic constitution.
Our lifestyle including eating habits, physical exercise, balance of emotions and working life all contribute to how our Qi flows and any extreme can cause an imbalance. Over a period of time these imbalances of energy can manifest as conditions and illnesses. The practitioner ascertains where the imbalances are and corrects the flow of Qi by inserting fine needles into specific points to treat the person, at the root cause of the problem and alleviate any symptoms.
